The 2021 Carnival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is cancelled

carnaval gran canaria 2021 canceled
There will be no carnival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2021

The world of Carnival will have to wait until 2022 for the celebration of another edition in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The Carnival department works on a series of acts that, throughout 2021, will keep the essence of the party alive.

The uncertainty generated by the evolution of the pandemic is incompatible with the work required for an event of the magnitude of the carnival in the capital of Gran Canaria.

Inmaculada Medina shared with the representatives of the different groups the conclusions of the meetings held throughout these months: the impossibility of rehearsing, of foreseeing the granting of permits for acts, in addition to the difficulty of finding sponsorships in uncertain times.

Carnival suspends the celebration of the official festival program until 2022. This has been communicated by the councilor Inmaculada Medina to the different representatives of the groups involved, after having spoken to each sector involved throughout the summer.

"The uncertainty generated by the evolution of the pandemic is incompatible with the forecast and previous work required for an event of the magnitude of the Carnival," explained Medina.

The councilor announced that although there will be no carnival next year, from now on the team will focus on the design of a series of events that, as long as the evolution of the pandemic allows, will keep the essence of the party alive throughout 2021, and will create opportunities for Carnival participants.
