The Tenerife Island Council has announced the closure of additional access roads to Teide National Park due to icy conditions.
As of Sunday, traffic is restricted on the TF-24 (via La Esperanza) and TF-21 (via La Orotava) because of ice patches forming on the roadways.
In addition, the TF-38 (Chío) is closed from kilometer 13, and the TF-21 is shut down from kilometer 59 (Las Lajas Recreational Area, Vilaflor) as of this afternoon.
According to an official statement, the TF-24 is closed between kilometer 24 (Los Loros) and kilometer 43 (El Portillo). Additionally, as a preventive measure, the TF-445 road, which connects Buenavista to the Teno Lighthouse, is also closed.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, the Tenerife Island Council has activated the Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) starting at midnight on Sunday.
To ensure public safety, all forest trails were closed from 4:00 PM on Saturday, and access to the hiking paths leading to Teide’s peak is now prohibited.
The president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to high-altitude areas, and to refrain from outdoor activities during this period.
