A 16-year-old Norwegian girl has been found dead in the coastal resort area of Puerto Rico, in the south of Gran Canaria, Spanish authorities confirmed. The teenager’s body was discovered early on Saturday morning floating near the entrance to the marina, prompting an immediate investigation by the Civil Guard.
The girl had been staying with her family at a tourist complex in the nearby area of Agua La Perra, a popular destination for visitors to the island. The circumstances surrounding her death were initially unclear.
However, investigators now believe the most likely cause was an accident. According to preliminary findings, there are no signs of violence or foul play. Authorities are still finalizing their report but say the evidence gathered so far does not indicate that the death was the result of a criminal act.
As part of the inquiry, officers have interviewed a key witness who reported finding the body. The same individual told investigators he had seen the teenager alone on the pier just minutes earlier while exercising in the area. Police have also taken statements from other potential witnesses, as well as from the girl’s family, in an effort to reconstruct her final movements.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to establish a full account of the events leading up to the трагic incident.
