The Guardia Civil in Morro Jable has successfully apprehended an individual suspected of carrying out a series of burglaries that occurred between late April and August 2024.
The incidents, mostly affecting tourists, involved the perpetrator breaking into apartments during the night tors breaking into apartments during the night while the occupants were asleep, stealing money, electronic devices such as mobile phones, watches, and other personal belongings.
Following a series of reports, the Investigation Unit of the Morro Jable Main Station conducted a thorough investigation. Their efforts focused on the crimes, which were concentrated in a specific area and carried out using a consistent method of operation.
Based on the evidence gathered, the Civil Guard implemented a surveillance and prevention operation in recent months, particularly in the area where the frequency of these burglaries had increased.
The investigation, led by the Civil Guard, resulted in the identification of the suspected perpetrator. Witnesses were shown photographic evidence, which allowed them to positively identify the individual without any doubt. This led to the suspect’s arrest, preventing further criminal activities in the area.
It was discovered that the detained individual has an extensive criminal record, including prior offenses against property. Similar incidents in local hotel complexes had led to his arrest twice before—once in June 2023, when he was caught attempting to enter a hotel room, and again in March of this year.
The detainee, along with the compiled case files, has been placed under the jurisdiction of the Puerto del Rosario Court on duty. The Civil Guard continues its investigation, aiming to recover the stolen items, and further arrests related to these crimes have not been ruled out.
