Bars and restaurants in the Canary Islands will be able to request the Covid certificate to enter their premises
It was announced that the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TJSC) has ratified today, December 4th, the measure proposed by the Canary Islands Government, which would allow establishments to ask for the Covid certificate in order to accede to their premises.
The establishments that decide to request the certificate will take advantage of the restrictions (capacity and hours) corresponding to one level lower than the one on their island.
So the bars and restaurants that will decide to implement this measure of asking for a valid Covid certificate, will have fewer restrictions, meaning an extended capacity and longer opening hours.
At the moment only Fuerteventura is placed at level 3, so in this case, it would mean that bars and restaurants that will ask for the Covid certificate will be subjected to restrictions that are usually imposed at level 2.
The rest of the Canary Islands are placed at level 1 at the moment, so there is no way for them to extend capacity or opening hours, but as the number of cases continues to rise, it is highly likely that Tenerife and Gran Canaria will pass to level 2 soon, so at that point, they may use this option to still follow the measures that would normally be imposed at level 1.
The measure will be published on Thursday, December 9 in the BOC and will be in effect from December 10 until January 10. The measure will be subject to evaluation and, if necessary, a new judicial authorization will be requested for its extension.
Establishments will not be forced to request the Covid certificate, they can do it voluntarily if they want to extend their opening hours and capacity.
