This is how Cofete looks when the sun is setting. It's our favorite place for sunset in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is an island to be explored and discovered and it's easy to do so if you have a rental car and you are able to drive out on your own. One of the most romantic adventures that you can have in Fuerteventura is to watch the sunset on one of its wild beaches on the west coast, where the waves come crashing into the surrounding rocks, offering spectacular sights for those present.

If you want to make the most of your visit to Fuerteventura, we recommend that you try and explore as many places as possible. There are lots of great beaches to be enjoyed during the daytime but you shouldn't miss the evening show either. And if you want to know where to go for the best sunset in Fuerteventura, we have a few recommendations for you.

1. El Cotillo

El Cotillo is a sleepy fishing village, that harbors some of the most amazing beaches in Fuerteventura: the lagoons and Playa Concha are both places that you should visit at least once during your holiday on the island.

There are a few good restaurants that offer great views for a dinner in El Cotillo and it's a nice way to have a romantic couple's date night while watching what is probably the most romantic sunset in Fuerteventura.

2. Ajuy

Located on the west coast, Ajuy is usually visited for the amazing caves and the lovely views from the dirt path that takes you to them.

Remember that the west coast is dangerous for swimming, so we would not advise you to try to swim here.

The sky and the beach in Ajuy are quite lovely at sunset, as there are not many people around on the beach at that time.

There's a restaurant right close to the beach where you can have dinner while admiring the sun going down. The food is good (not amazing, but good) and maybe a bit overpriced for its quality, but I suppose that you are paying for the view and the location right next to the beach.

3. Cofete Beach

Cofete is one of the most amazing beaches in the Canary Islands

Watching the sunset from Playa Cofete is a special and romantic experience, something to be remembered forever. For us, it was the best sunset we've had in Fuerteventura and it's such a unique experience, that it's hard to put it into words.

Cofete is the wildest and most amazing beach in Fuerteventura and although the access road is in bad condition, it is worth the journey there.

Since it's situated on the west coast, the vast beach of Cofete offers one of the greatest views in Fuerteventura, with the sun hiding into the ocean, as you can see in our photo. The sky is made up of a magical array of colors and the entire place is a photographer's dream, the ideal location for a couple's photoshoot perhaps.

We've experienced sunset on this beach once and it was almost completely deserted, just 2 or 3 other couples had also remained in the area at that time of the day.

The downside of staying so late at Cofete is the fact that you will have to drive on that bumpy road in the dark, but if you're careful and you're an experienced driver you should have no problems.

4. Mirador Sicasumbre

Don't miss a stop at Sicasumbre viewpoint

This Fuerteventura viewpoint is not very well known and this is a real shame, as the view from up here is stunning.

We visited this Mirador during the golden hour and the colors were warm and pleasant, making it another great spot for photography. You get some unobstructed views of the inland, which can prove to be an interesting change from our previous suggestions, which were all about the beach and the ocean.

Of course, these are our top suggestions, but no matter where you are on the island, you should stop for a few moments and admire the beauty of Fuerteventura when the sun goes into hiding.

Even in Corralejo, watching the sun go down provides a fantastic view of the town under a gorgeous warm light, so you don't have to travel far in order to enjoy a nice sunset experience on this wonderful island.
