Looking for a beautiful and romantic place to watch the sunset in Tenerife?

From sunrise 'till dusk, Tenerife is an island full of amazing surprises and if you're on the hunt for the best spots to see the sunset, we will show you our favorite ones.

Being an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, you can imagine that there are many great places where you can admire both the sunrises and sunsets.

But the landscape of Tenerife is so unique and diverse, that it can offer a variety of experiences and for each one, you'll be tempted to say: "This is the best Tenerife sunset ever!".

Even if you don't see the actual sun going into the ocean, Tenerife's sky and clouds at sunset are a spectacle in itself, so as you can see we're huge fans of watching the sunset every day and we actually make a purpose out of this and try to never miss one.

Best sunsets in Tenerife

Watching the sunset in Tenerife is a great romantic idea, perfect for a couple's holiday, so we'll show you where the best places are.

1. Mount Teide

The sunset inside Teide National Park is one of the most unique experiences in Tenerife

We started with the most unique location, as nothing can honestly beat a sunset at over 2000 m (6500 feet). It is a one of a kind experience in all the Canary Islands and if you rent a car you can drive to Teide National Park by yourself and there's a car park on TF-38 from where you have a really lovely view.

We've also been on a day trip with Teide by Night which included a stargazing experience, as well as watching the sunset with a cup of champagne inside the Teide National Park.

Throughout the years we've seen several sunsets in Teide National Park, as we usually hire a car in Tenerife and we drive up there ourselves every time we visit. The sunsets in Tenerife can be so different from one day to another but we always find them incredibly beautiful, especially during the winter months when we tend to come more often.

The best place to go watch the sunset in Teide National Park is Mirador de las Narices del Teide.

2. Playa La Arena

View from the beautiful Playa de La Arena

We may be biased, as we love Playa La Arena and we spend a lot of time here, but we really do love the sunsets here, especially when you see the sun setting behind the island La Gomera.

You can either watch from the beach or from the balconies on the promenade and there are even a few restaurants right by the beach, so you can even have dinner or a drink while watching the sunset.

3. Playa del Camison

Playa del Camison is one of our favorite places for sunset in Tenerife

Playa del Camison is a popular beach during the day, but it's also one of the best places for watching the sunset in Tenerife.

A lot of people gather on the beach and around it, on the breakwater that goes out into the sea to watch the view of the sun going into the ocean.

If you want to enjoy the sunset with a drink in hand and some music we recommend La Palapa Beach Club, located on one side of the beach in front of Hotel Sir Anthony.

4. Alcala

Alcala not only has beautiful views of the sunset in Tenerife, but also a chilled vibe

Alcala is a small coastal town in Tenerife, located close to Playa La Arena.

We've stayed in Alcala several times throughout the years and it's a nice and quiet place, with a very different vibe from the usual tourist resorts.

We absolutely loved the sunsets we got to see in Alcala, some of the best sunsets in Tenerife with a view of La Gomera. Everybody gathers along the oceanfront, tourists and locals as well, since Alcala is still mostly a residential town, so it's a different atmosphere and the views are definitely amazing as well.

5. Punta de Teno

Punta de Teno is the westernmost point of Tenerife and it offers some amazing views at sunset, so if you are ever in the area at that time, don't miss the chance to see an amazing natural show.

From here you will have another perspective of the Los Gigantes Cliffs and you have the opportunity to take some great photos, especially if you get here during the golden hour (one hour before the actual sunset).

6. Playa de las Americas

If you're staying in the south of Tenerife, you don't have to travel far if you want to see a gorgeous sunset.

Playa de las Americas is actually a convenient place to watch the sunset in Tenerife, as you can see from our picture which was taken at Playa Honda in March.

7. Montana Chayofita

Sunset view from Montana Chayofita in Tenerife

Montana Chayofita is the big hill that you see from Playa Las Vistas and it provides fantastic views of the sunset, probably one of the best sunsets in Tenerife south.

The climb up Montana Chayofita is not difficult but we do recommend that you wear closed shoes like sneakers or trainers (not flip-flops). The path up Montana Chayofita is not paved and doesn't have lighting, so make sure to make your way down quickly after sunset, as to avoid walking in the dark on the dirt track. We've done it several times and there are a lot of people who go up on Montana Chayofita for sunset, so you won't be alone up there, but it's best to be careful and walk back down while there's still some natural light (we've also used our phone flashlights in some areas when we overstayed at the top after the sunset).

The climb up Montana Chayofita shouldn't take you more than 20-30 minutes from the start of the path and there are a lot of people who come here for trail running, so it's not a difficult or dangerous path, but it's also not suitable for people with mobility issues.

8. Mirador de Chipeque

This place might not be as convenient as Playa de Las Americas, but it offers a great sunset with Mount Teide in the background and you'll most likely have the place to yourself.

9. Playa de Benijo

Located in the Anaga Rural Park, this wild beach offers dramatic views of the Roques de Anaga and it truly is a photographer's dream at sunset time.

You'll see many pro photographers here and amateurs as well, but even if you don't take any pictures yourself, you'll probably remember the image forever, as it's a truly spectacular show of nature.

In any case, no matter where you are in Tenerife at sunset, just stop for a few minutes and take the time to admire the view. If you are together with a loved one, then this will be a memorable and romantic experience to share, so we highly recommend making time for it at least once during your stay.

10. Mirador Archipenque

Not far from Playa la Arena you have Mirador Archipenque, which offers amazing views at any time of the day.

You have the lovely Los Gigantes cliffs in the background, so with the warm sunset colors in the picture, you can imagine that the place is a great setting for watching the sunset in Tenerife.
