Playa Los Cristianos in Tenerife has recuperated its Blue Flag in 2023
The Canary Islands received 56 awards in 2023 for their beaches from the Blue Flag program and 4 Blue Flags for marinas in the archipelago.
What are Blue Flag beaches?
Blue Flag is an annual award and environmental quality certification system developed by the Federation of Environmental Education (FEE). In Spain, this initiative is coordinated by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC).
These awards distinguish those beaches and marinas that meet the criteria of excellence in the quality of swimming water, comply with environmental regulations and have adequate health and safety infrastructure to guarantee the health and safety of their users.
Spain has maintained its international leadership in terms of Blue Flag Beaches since 1994.
There are 56 Blue Flag Beaches in the Canary Islands in 2023
There is no shortage of beautiful beaches in the Canary Islands, but it's also good to know that there are so many places that also meet the criteria of safety in terms of water quality, public safety and preserving the environment.
