A British tourist aged 18 is fighting for his life after being stabbed in the early hours of Sunday in the busy nightlife district of Las Verónicas in southern Tenerife.

According to reports cited by the UK newspaper The Sun, the incident unfolded on Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina, a main strip in Playa de las Américas, famous for its nightlife and constant flow of tourists.

Attempt to help friend turns violent

The confrontation began when a man allegedly stole a mobile phone from a young woman in the victim’s group. Witness accounts indicate the teenager pursued the suspect in an effort to recover the device.

The situation escalated near a local business, where the assailant is believed to have produced a bladed weapon and stabbed the tourist before fleeing the scene.

Emergency services were alerted at approximately 2:15 a.m. and responded quickly to stabilise the victim at the location.

Hospitalised in critical condition

The injured teenager was transported in critical condition to Hospiten Sur, where he remains in intensive care.

Medical staff described the injuries as severe and immediately life-threatening. No official update on his condition has been released beyond confirmation that he remains under close observation.

Ongoing safety concerns in nightlife area

Las Verónicas is one of the most prominent nightlife hubs in southern Tenerife, attracting thousands of visitors each year. However, the area has faced recurring scrutiny over safety concerns linked to high visitor density and late-night disturbances.

Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect, and the investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing.
