The government team from Cabildo de Fuerteventura sees the measure of maintaining Fuerteventura at Alert Level as completely unjustified.
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura denounces as incoherent and unjustified the decision of the Government of the Canary Islands to maintain the level 3 health alert for in Fuerteventura since the current data support the decrease in the alert level and it could prove helpful for the island's tourism sector, which it an important factor in the island's economy.
At all times, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura has been collaborating with the Government of the Canary Islands to reduce the number of new infections and to increase the percentage of vaccinated people. From the island institution, strong awareness campaigns have been carried out aimed at the population to follow the safety measures and to convince residents to get vaccinated. All these efforts by the island executive have been undeniably successful, both in the remission of new cases, currently reduced to almost 100 active cases and in increasing the vaccinated population, which currently stands at around 74%.
Likewise, and in collaboration with the six city councils of the island, the monitoring of compliance of the anticovid measures has been reinforced.
It should be remembered that Fuerteventura has been one of the islands most economically hit by the pandemic, with one of the highest rates of unemployment and people in ERTE in the entire archipelago. In addition, a lot of businesses have had to close unfortunately and the level of family poverty has skyrocketed, due to the lack of income that could at least cover basic needs.
In view of the data issued, where a decrease is observed in all indicators, especially in that of hospital pressure, thus, on July 16, 2021, when Fuerteventura went to alert level 3, there were a total of 277 cases active, with 4 hospitalized and 1 patient in the ICU. Currently, there are 112 active cases, no hospitalized patients and no one admitted in the ICU. And finally, the percentage of people vaccinated on the island is well above previous levels, reaching 74%.
Fuerteventura has gone from 323 active cases on August 3, to the current rates that barely exceed 100 and therefore "we believe that we are in a sufficiently safe health situation to reduce the level of restrictions and facilitate the economic recovery of the island", says the president of the Cabildo, Sergio Lloret.
