Calima and new heatwave in the Canary Islands, with temperatures up to 37ºC

A new heatwave affecting the Canary Islands is starting this Sunday, so Aemet has issued several warnings in regards to high temperatures which will be recorded over the next several days.

On Sunday, the warning in regards to high temperatures will be in place for Gran Canaria only, where temperatures could reach up to 35ºC.

Also starting from Sunday, a new wave of calima will enter the Canaries, affecting the oriental islands and Tenerife in a greater proportion than the rest of the archipelago.

On Monday, the warning in regards to temperatures will be in place for Gran Canaria with temperatures reaching up to 37ºC and Fuerteventura with temperatures up to  34ºC.

On Tuesday, the alert will cover more islands in the archipelago, including Gran Canaria, La Palma, Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro, with Gran Canaria being the only island with a red alert in place for the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, where temperatures could go as high as 38 ºC.

Alerts in place in Gran Canaria over the following days:

Yellow Notice (Low Risk) :

• Agüimes and Ingenio: on August 1 and 2.
• Mogán: on the 2nd and 3rd of August.

Orange Warning (Medium Risk):

• San Bartolomé de Tirajana: from August 1 to 4.

Red Notice (High Risk):

• Santa Lucía de Tirajana: from July 31 to August 4.
