Another episode of calima was announced by Aemet for this weekend in the Canary Islands, starting from this Friday, January 14th and accompanied by strong gusts of wind.

The yellow warning alert is activated from 8 am on Friday for Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and from 6 pm it will be extended to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. On Saturday the yellow alert for calima is extended for all the Canary Islands, remaining in place until at least midnight.

The calima will be accompanied by strong gusts of wind this weekend as well and there is a yellow warning alert put in place for strong wind by Aemet as well. On Friday the strong wind gusts will reach up to 70 km/h and they will be prevalent in Tenerife in the north of Anaga and in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, mostly inland.

The yellow alert for strong wind will be in place from 6 am on Friday in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and from midnight on Saturday it will be extended to all the archipelago, except for the island of La Palma.

The visibility will be reduced to only 3000 m due to the calima and the Saharan dust will be more intense in the islands located in the east of the archipelago than on the ones located in the west.

The calima is likely to last on Sunday as well, with temperatures remaining mostly unchanged by this episode.
