Canary Islands managed to administer 222,235 Covid-19 vaccine doses to date

The Ministry of Health in the Canary Islands has announced that 75,667 people in the archipelago have received a full two-dose vaccination, representing 5.6% of the target population.

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has already administered 222,235 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 and continues to advance in its vaccination plan with the two vaccines available in Spain at the moment, after the suspension last Monday of the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine throughout the country, in a precautionary manner and by a principle of prevention and prudence by the Ministry of Health.

Therefore, 75,667 people have already received the two doses of the vaccine in the Canary Islands, representing 5.6% of the target population.

The vaccination schedule has had to be modified during this week due to the suspension of vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine. However, the Canary Islands are prepared to reactivate the vaccination of these groups once the European Medicines Agency concluded yesterday that the use of this drug is not associated with a general increase in the risk of suffering thromboembolic episodes.

While the vaccination of these groups with the doses of Astrazéneca is reestablished, which is expected to be done next Wednesday as in the rest of Spain, the SCS continues to vaccinate with the doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, destined for people part of the rest of the planned groups following the criteria of vulnerability, applying the second doses for the large non-institutionalized dependents and the first doses for those over 80 years of age.

In total, as of last night, 172,321 doses of Pfizer and 11,059 of Moderna have been administered. As for those of Astrazéneca, 38,855 doses had been administered until last Monday when it was cautiously withdrawn from the vaccination process.

GROUPS OF THE POPULATION TO BE VACCINATED

Group 1. Residents and health and social health personnel who work in residences for the elderly and care for large dependents.
Group 2. Front-line personnel in the health and social-health field.
Group 3. Other health and social health personnel:
Group 3A. Hospital and PC personnel not considered in group 2. Dental, dental hygiene and other personnel.
Group 3B. Public Health services personnel-management and response to the pandemic. Health and social health personnel not previously vaccinated. Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacy offices, dental technicians ...
Group 3C. The Rest of the health and social health personnel not previously vaccinated.
Group 4. Large non-institutionalized dependents.
Group 5. Senior groups:
Group 5A. People aged 80 and over.
Group 5B. People from 70 to 79 years old.
Group 5C. People from 60 to 69 years old.
Group 6. Groups with an essential function for society:
Group 6A. Security Forces and Bodies, Emergencies and Armed Forces.
Group 6B. Teachers and staff of early childhood education and special education.
Group 6C. Teachers and staff of primary and secondary education.
Group 7. People under 60 years of age with severe COVID-19 high-risk conditions.
Group 8. People aged 56-59 years.
Group 9. People aged 45-55 years.
