canary islands low medium covid alert

The change in the COVID-19 Surveillance and Control Strategy launched this week by the Ministry and the Autonomous Communities, establishes five risk levels (from 0 to 4) that range between controlled circulation, low, medium, high level and very high depending on the care pressure registered in each island.

With this modification, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma are at alert level 2 and Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Gomera and El Hierro at level 1, which indicates medium risk and low risk levels, respectively.

The indicators of the use of health services, referring to the occupation of hospital beds, are fundamentally those that mark the severity of the impact caused by COVID-19. In this way, five alert levels are established (from 0 to 4) that assess whether the situation is controlled circulation, which would be the lowest level, or either low, medium, high, or very high-risk levels.

Healthcare indicators

The care indicators show a favorable evolution and the daily average of conventional hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients remains stable and with an occupancy percentage that is low for the Canary Islands as a whole and for all the islands, except Tenerife and La Palma, which remain at medium risk.

The number of occupied ICU beds maintains a downward trend, decreasing by 9% compared to the previous week. In the new indicator for the use of ICU beds per 100,000 inhabitants, a very slight downward trend can be seen, standing at 1.19 ICU beds used per 100,000 inhabitants.

Incidence in people older than 60 years

In the Autonomous Community as a whole, the Accumulated Incidence rate at seven days for people over 60 years of age stands at 381.78 cases per 100,000 inhabitants as of March 29, which represents a decrease of 12.1%, with respect to to the previous week.

In the last seven days, this indicator of virus transmission has shown a stable trend. All the islands are at medium risk, as is the Community as a whole, except for Lanzarote, which is at low risk. For this indicator, in the last week Tenerife and Fuerteventura remained stable, while the rest recorded a decrease in the number of newly registered cases.
