For the first time, the Canary Islands are participating in the Beleef fair in the Netherlands, aiming to attract travelers aged 50 and above who enjoy extended winter vacations.
This summer, 391,023 regular airline seats have been made available between the Canary Islands and the Netherlands, with Gran Canaria being the most popular destination for Dutch visitors.
The Canary Islands’ Tourism Department sees great potential in the "silver" tourist market—those over 50—due to their tendency to take longer, more frequent trips and spend more during their stay. According to Tourism Minister Jéssica de León, these visitors are interested not just in sun and beach holidays but also in exploring local culture, visiting markets, wineries, museums, and sampling Canarian cuisine.
The Beleef fair, aimed at older travelers, offers a chance to meet the diverse needs of this demographic, including themes related to health and leisure, along with vacation options. The islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma, and La Gomera will also showcase their offers at the fair. The Canary Islands' booth is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Last year, the fair—previously known as 50 Plus Beurs—drew 50,000 attendees, and the Canary Islands had a 20,000-square-meter exhibition space.
