What are the rules on masks in the Canary Islands?
The Government of the Canary Islands will not change the rules on masks, meaning that they won't make them mandatory everywhere in public, but they will intensify the controls so that a mask is used according to the standards already approved.
The current regulation requires the use of a mask in closed establishments and premises and in all those circumstances in the open air in which it is not possible to maintain an interpersonal distance of 1.5 meters.

So masks are manadatory in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Gomera, La Palmas, El Hierro and La Graciosa in all circumstances when a 1.5 meters safety distance can't be maintained!
The Governing Council has decided in its session on Thursday, July 16, that the monitoring of current regulations will be intensified, that is, controls and surveillance will be increased so that the currently approved regulations are met.
The government spokesman, Julio Pérez, pointed out that, following the criteria of epidemiologists and public health experts "the mandatory use of masks will not extend beyond what they already are" and recalls that with the current regulations, masks are compulsory for a large part of both public and private activities since they must be used in closed premises and establishments and in those places outdoors where the interpersonal distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained.
Julio Pérez appealed to the population remembering that "masks are mandatory in a large part of human activities." As he insisted that already, with the current regulations in place, walking on a congested street without a mask it's prohibited if you can't maintain a safe distance of 1.5 meters.
The spokesman stressed a message "that the Government believes is very important: the greatest dangers arising from the lack of use of a mask occur in private settings, at family gatherings and private parties. Meetings and private areas in general where the non-use of masks can produce a contagion and lead to an increase in the number of infections ”, as has already occurred in other autonomous communities.
"Today there is no need to extend the mandatory use of masks because current regulations indicate that they are already mandatory in most activities." And he added: "we will apply sanctions to those who do not comply with the rule" and at the same time he appealed to the sense of responsibility in the case of parties or family or private gatherings.
