Canary Islands remain at medium and low levels of Covid alert

The Ministry of Health has today updated the health alert levels after the epidemiological report of the General Directorate of Public Health. 

According to this report, all the islands continue at the same level they were: Tenerife and Gran Canaria at level 2, or medium risk, and Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro at level 1, or low risk, although with an improvement in the indicators of bed occupancy and cumulative incidence in those over 60 years of age.

Healthcare indicators

The care indicators maintain a favorable evolution and the daily average of conventional hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients decreased by 21.4% and with an occupancy percentage that is medium for Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and low or in controlled circulation for the rest of the islands.

In the same way, the number of occupied ICU beds maintains a downward trend, decreasing by 25.5% compared to the previous evaluation. The occupancy rate of ICU beds per 100,000 inhabitants shows a stable trend in the last week, standing at 1.3 ICU beds used per 100,000 inhabitants, considered as low risk.

Incidence in people over the age of 60

In the Autonomous Community as a whole, the 7-day Cumulative Incidence rate for those over 60 years of age decreased by 13.9% compared to the previous week and stood at 287.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants as of April 11. In the last seven days, this indicator of virus transmission has maintained a downward trend.

All the islands are at medium risk, like the Community as a whole, except for Lanzarote, La Gomera and El Hierro, which are at low risk. For this indicator, in the last week, La Gomera and El Hierro presented rising figures while the rest of the islands showed a downward trend.
