canary islands suspend covid certificates

The Government of the Canary Islands has announced that it is temporarily suspending, in principle until January 31, 2022, the obligation to show a covid certificate, a negative test, or proof of having had the disease in the last six months in order to stay in a hotel.

According to information from the Tourism Board, it was necessary to eliminate the existing double control (airport and accommodation) and relax the current rules that were established for the Canarian tourist accommodation establishments (hotels and other licensed rentals like villas and apartments). These were put in place to strengthen the image of the Canary Islands as a safe destination and as a guarantee of high standards of protection of the health of its visitors.

But at this moment, this decision to suspend the need for Covid certificates in tourist accommodation is taken after all the islands in the archipelago have improved their epidemiological indicators, so they are all currently placed at alert level 1, which is the lowest level in terms of restrictions due to Covid.

The Canary Islands also have a very large part of the population already vaccinated against Covid-19, which is why the number of infections is currently very low and this restriction can be lifted.
