Canary Islands under yellow warning alert due to strong wind and waves

The State Meteorological Agency ( Aemet ) has activated for this Thursday the yellow warning (risk) due to wind and strong waves, especially in the afternoon and evening, across all the Canary Islands.

At high altitudes and on exposed peaks and slopes very strong peak gusts are expected from the northeast, especially in the westernmost islands, as well as on the peaks of Gran Canaria and in the southern part of Lanzarote.

In the Tenerife, Aemet indicates that it will rain throughout the day due to the especially in the north of the island, as well as in the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

A slight decrease in temperatures is expected in areas of high altitudes on the mountainous islands. The minimums will be around 15°C in Tenerife.

  • Lanzarote: Maximum gusts: 70 km / h. Especially affecting areas of the southern half
  • Fuerteventura: High waves of up to 4 to 5 m
  • East, south and west of Tenerife - Tenerife: NE wind force 7
  • Summits of Gran Canaria: Maximum gusts: 70 km / h.

Also, in the north and east of the islands with high altitudes, cloudy weather with widespread rains are expected, especially in the northern regions. In the rest of the areas, cloudy intervals with a low probability of occasional light rains. Temperatures with little change.
