Canary Islands want to make the Covid certificate mandatory for some indoor activities
The Deputy Minister of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Antonio Olivera, announced this Thursday that the Governing Council has agreed that the "Covid certificate" will be introduced as a requirement for certain activities in the archipelago.
At tonight's press conference, the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, said that next week they will draw up the list of activities where the Covid certificate should be required, which will include closed places that are usually crowded and where masks have to be removed and the safety distance can't be maintained. Nightlife venues and the interior of restaurants are among some of the places where the Covid certificate will likely be required
The Covid certificate will have to prove proven that the person has been fully vaccinated, has surpassed the disease, or has a recent negative test result.
The Government will probably have to request the judicial ratification of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) in order to introduce this new requirement as a safety measure, but first, they will wait for the proposal to be finalized.
The Canary Islands are expected a high number of tourists for the end of the year, including many national and foreign visitors and with the number of new infections on the rise both in the archipelago and everywhere else in Europe, the authorities are trying to find a way to keep the spread of the virus under control and to avoid putting in place more severe restrictions later on.
