The Civil Guard in Lanzarote has dealt a significant blow to criminal activity in the island’s tourist areas after arresting two individuals accused of carrying out 31 thefts from rental vehicles across Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The suspects, detained on September 17, are allegedly responsible for 24 completed robberies and seven attempted ones. According to official sources, they primarily targeted parking areas frequented by tourists, taking advantage of their absence to break car windows and steal valuable items left inside.
The investigation began following a noticeable increase in theft reports in these areas, prompting the Civil Guard to deploy a special surveillance operation. This operation led to the identification and arrest of the alleged perpetrators.
During the police action, officers recovered numerous stolen personal belongings, which have since been returned to their rightful owners. The detainees and the case files have been placed under the jurisdiction of the Court of Duty in Arrecife.
The Civil Guard has reminded citizens not to leave valuables in plain sight inside vehicles and to manually check that doors and windows are properly locked to prevent the use of frequency inhibitors by criminals.
