What are the rules and measures regarding Covid on Level 1 in the Canary Islands?
Since Thursday, October 14th, all the islands in the Canary Islands archipelago are now placed at alert level 1 in terms of Covid restrictions, which is the lowest level and it's based on the low infection rate.
But what does Level 1 mean in the Canary Islands?
And how does it affect visitors coming to the Canary Islands?
These are some of the specific measures that are in place on islands that are currently at level 1:
- The maximum capacity allowed in outdoor spaces like terraces will be 100% and 75% in indoor spaces like restaurants, bars, clubs.
- Groups of people: groups of maximum of 12 people allowed, except in the case of cohabitants. In the event that the group is made up of cohabitants and non-cohabitants, the maximum number of people indicated will not be exceeded.
- Closing hours: 3:00 am for hospitality venues like restaurants, bars, cafes.
- Mass events. its celebration and the maximum number of attendees will be adjusted to what is established in the health authorization and other circumstances provided for in article 13.
- A group of a maximum of 50 people may take part in tours with a guide.
- The activity of nightlife establishments is allowed: discotheques, cocktail bars and karaoke bars. Dancing is still not allowed. The closing time is 4:00 am.
- The persons responsible for nightlife establishments and activities will collect information from employees and clients for the traceability of contagions and contacts, in accordance with the provisions of article 5.2 of this Decree-Law. The information collected will include name and surname, ID, telephone number and date and time of the service. This record will be kept at the disposal of the health authorities for a month after the event.
- Saunas can only be used individually or by people living together simultaneously and must be cleaned and disinfected between successive uses.
- The sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages, individually or in groups, on public roads, parks or outdoor recreation areas will not be allowed.

Mask rules
The use of masks is mandatory for adults and children over 6 years of age in closed spaces for public use (except for food intake) and in outdoor spaces where it is not possible to maintain an interpersonal safety distance of 1.5m. People with disabilities or respiratory disease are exempt.
This means that you need to wear a mask when going into shops, supermarkets, etc.
Do these rules apply in the same way in all the Canary Islands?
As long as all the Canary Islands remain placed at level 1, then the rules are the same everywhere.
So at this moment, these are the Covid restrictions in place everywhere from Tenerife, to Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Gomera, El Hierro, or La Palma.
If and when an island moves to another alert level, then on that specific island the measures would change, but for the moment these are the rules in place for alert level 1 in the Canary Islands archipelago.
