AEMET has published the climatic summary for the month of December 2022, which has been classified as the warmest in all of Spain, not just the Canary Islands since the beginning of the monthly series in 1961, exceeding December 1989 by 0.2 °C, the warmest to date.

December 2022 in the Canary Islands was classed as "extremely hot" with an anomaly of +1.7 °C (compared to PR 1981-2010), it was the warmest December in the series since 1961.

Regarding precipitation, December had a DRY character, accumulating 48.3 mm on average, which corresponds to 75% of the expected average precipitation. The rainfall presented a marked difference between the western and eastern islands, with Fuerteventura receiving the least amount of precipitation.

December has been between humid and very humid in almost the entire continental Spain, becoming extremely humid in parts of Extremadura and the Community of Madrid, as well as the western Canary Islands. In contrast, December has been classed as in between normal and dry on the Cantabrian coast, northeastern Catalonia and the eastern peninsula, as well as the Balearic archipelago and the eastern Canary Islands.

The current hydrological year (which began on October 1, 2022) presents a VERY DRY character, with accumulated precipitation of 61.4 mm, which corresponds to 44% of the expected value:
