Diver dies following accident off Fuerteventura coast

A 54-year-old diver died this Monday following an accident near the Corralejo Pier in the municipality of La Oliva in Fuerteventura.

According to the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 112, a call was received from a boat at around 10:30 a.m. reporting the transfer to land of a diver who had suffered a diving accident near the island's coast.

SUC personnel, along with a Primary Care doctor and nurse, responded at the dock, attending to the individual who was in cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite performing basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, they were unable to resuscitate him and confirmed his death.

Meanwhile, La Oliva Firefighters and the Local Police cordoned off the area to facilitate the landing of an SUC medical helicopter, which was activated but did not land, as the diver had already been pronounced dead.
