es alert system canary islands emergency warning alert

The Government of the Canary Islands will conduct a test of the ES Alert system in Tenerife on October 24th.

This system is designed to send alerts to the public in case of emergencies. Between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM on that day, you may receive a message on your mobile phone accompanied by a loud beep and vibration.

The message will clearly state that it is not a real emergency and will include the word "TEST." Therefore, there is no need to be alarmed, as this is only a drill. Once you have read the message, you will need to click "ACCEPT."

After accepting the message, it will disappear from your screen, and you will be given the option to complete a survey attached to the alert. Participating in the survey is important as it will help assess the effectiveness of the test, enabling improvements in the system’s performance and reach.

The Canary Islands’ Directorate General of Emergencies emphasizes that this is just a test, and there is no need to call 112. The purpose of publicizing the test is to ensure that people are aware of it and to prevent unnecessary panic.

If you receive the alert while driving, do not be alarmed. Instead, stop your vehicle in a safe location before reading and accepting the message. If you are with elderly individuals, it is recommended to explain the test to them so that they are not frightened and can respond appropriately. It is important to note that at no point will personal information be requested.

This message will be sent to all mobile phones within the coverage area of their respective carriers and that have civil protection alerts enabled.
