Europeans are heading to the Canary Islands for Easter with 13,000 flights scheduled for Holy Week

Holy Week is an important period for tourism in the Canary Islands, as many Europeans, as well as many Spaniards from the mainland, are heading to the Canaries for a bit of sun.

In the image shared on Twitter by Flight Radar, you can see the dense concentration of planes over the skies of the Canary Islands, which is indicative of the large number of flights that have been scheduled for the holiday season.

The Canary Islands airports have scheduled a total of 12,977 flights (7,364 national and 5,613 international) over Easter, between Friday, March 31, and Monday, April 10, thus exceeding the figures for 2019, the year in which the Canary Islands operated 12,344 flights (7,026 nationals and 5,318 international) over the Easter holiday period.

It seems that this year, the hospitality and tourism business federations have informed that the average occupancy is 85% for the province of Las Palmas, which comprises the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, while in Fuerteventura in particular the expected occupancy is around 90%, for hotels as well as private rentals. In the islands that form the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife the occupancy rate is between 73% and 80%.
