The Civil Guard has arrested five young individuals and identified four others, aged between 16 and 19, for their alleged involvement in a series of violent robberies in the tourist area of Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura.
The arrests took place between May 21 and June 12, following an investigation that began in March due to a rise in violent robberies in the area, which had caused increasing insecurity among local business owners and tourists.
The gang, self-named "La Rue," used a WhatsApp group to coordinate their criminal activities. They are accused of ten violent robberies, eight counts of assault, two instances of continuous fraud, one theft, and one count of property damage. The total value of the stolen goods amounts to 9,560 euros.
Snatch-and-Run Technique
The young offenders' modus operandi involved snatching items from their victims, often using electric scooters to facilitate their escape. In several cases, the victims sustained injuries, with one requiring surgical intervention. The criminals then used the stolen bank cards to make purchases at various stores on the island.
As a result of the police operation, one of the detainees has been remanded in custody by judicial order, while the others have been released on provisional bail awaiting trial. Additionally, the operation led to the dismantling of a cocaine sales point in the center of Caleta de Fuste.
