Fred Olsen has announced that they will add the 'Buganvilla Express' catamaran to their fleet, with a capacity of 250 passengers, in order to respond to the growing demand in travel between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Last April, Fred Olsen had added a new ship, the Benchi Express, to their Fuerteventura-Lanzarote route, so with this new addition, there will be more daily trips between the two islands in the archipelago.

The director of the Fleet, Juan Ignacio Liaño, explains that with this ship Fred. Olsen Express reaffirms its commitment to a route that is strategic for the economic, social and tourist activity of both islands. “The reinforcement of the route between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura is strategic in the connectivity model that we want for the Canary Islands and represents an important boost for the tourist, economic and social revitalization of the eastern islands. It is a key moment in the recovery of tourist activity in which, as the leading shipping company in the archipelago, we have to be present” said Juan Ignacio Liaño, fleet manager for Fred Olsen.

"The 'Buganvilla Express' is a catamaran with the capacity to transport 250 passengers and will allow us to offer tourists who visit the islands the possibility of visiting the neighboring island in one day and at very affordable prices," he added.

This catamaran is exclusively designed for passenger transport and will make the connection in about 35 minutes. Its design is geared towards comfort on short journeys and it has two decks, a solarium, a cafeteria and accessible services.

The ship's arrival in the Canary Islands is scheduled for Monday, June 27, and its first trip will be on Wednesday, June 29. The 'Buganvilla Express' will cover the same schedules that the 'Benchi Express' catamaran has been carrying out since April, as a reinforcement to the usual connections, while Benchi Express will return to its original route, the inland route of La Gomera, to serve the growing demand of travelers also on that island. This way, the interior route of La Gomera will be once again active, meaning the one that connects San Sebastián - Playa Santiago - Valle Gran Rey, which had been suspended during the pandemic.

The 'Buganvilla Express' is intended exclusively for passenger transport. Therefore, it will not carry cargo or vehicles. Therefore, Fred. Olsen Express has a special offer at a reduced cost of 5 euros for Canarian residents and 17.50 for non-residents.
