Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria move to Alert Level 3
The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced that Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria will go up to Alert Level 3 (they were all at Alert Level 2).
At the moment, Fuerteventura has the worst numbers regarding the incidence of the virus in the archipelago and so it will be placed in alert level 3, which implies the closure of non-essential businesses at 10:00 p.m. and a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 06:00 a.m. Tenerife and Gran Canaria will also be on the same alert level.
During the last two weeks, "all the indicators have risen steadily", said Blas Trujillo regarding the island of Tenerife, motivating the decision agreed on Thursday in the Governing Council of the Canary Islands.
La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro will stay on Alert Level 1, while Lanzarote remains at Alert Level 2, although the evolution is improving and it could lower its alert level soon.
Special measures for the Easter period
Several measures were adopted by the Government of the Canary Islands in regards to the Easter period, including the limitation of mobility between islands.
"The archipelago adopts new measures and limits the mobility, also between islands through the Royal Decree 996, requiring a negative test in order to be able to move between islands. Controls at airports and ports on the islands will be more frequent. Meetings between non-cohabitants will be limited, in public spaces, closed and open air. Alert levels 1 and 2 will be regulated as level 3, so the limit will be set at a maximum of 4 people. In addition, it is added that the permanence of people in private places will also be limited according to the levels. As for the curfew, level 1 will be at 11:00 pm, while alert level 2 have the same curfew as level 3, from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am." announced Blas Trujillo, the Minister of Health.
“As for specific measures, consumption in bars and restaurants will be prohibited at the bar or standing. Activities with crowds such as parties, concerts or karaoke are prohibited " said Blas Trujillo.
