Starting November 1st, there will be 14 weekly flights between Hamburg and Fuerteventura, which Marlene Figueroa, the Tourism Councilor for Fuerteventura, calls a "historic milestone" in efforts to improve regular connectivity with key markets.
Hamburg is Germany's second-largest city, a major business hub with a strong economy, and home to the EU’s second-largest port. This new direct, daily connection at competitive prices is seen as a major boost for Fuerteventura’s tourism. Figueroa believes it will not only make the island more attractive as a tourist destination but also positively impact the local economy, making it more productive and dynamic.
Fuerteventura is currently the sixth most popular destination for German tourists. Data from the first half of this year shows a 7.4% increase in German tourists compared to last year, proving the island’s tourism strategy is on the right track.
Figueroa explains that the Fuerteventura Tourism Board has been working closely with airlines and tour operators to position the island more effectively. The aim is to be more competitive and provide security for the upcoming winter and summer seasons.
Airlines like Eurowings and Condor are expanding their flights from Hamburg to meet the growing demand. Eurowings, part of the Lufthansa Group, and Condor, Germany’s third-largest airline, are both key players in bringing more tourists to Fuerteventura, catering to those who previously had to fly from other cities like Bremen or Hannover due to limited seats.
