The Tourism Department of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura will receive fifteen units of photovoltaic shelters with bicycle racks, which will be installed in tourist areas and accesses to beaches on the island.
The delivery of these infrastructures is scheduled for the week of 19 to 25 August and they will be distributed among the six municipalities of Fuerteventura.
The fifteen canopies, valued at almost 300,000 euros, will also have bicycle parking and will be installed in the different municipalities of the island.
According to President Lola García, with the installation of these photovoltaic canopies, the island of Fuerteventura is taking a significant step towards the sustainable transformation of tourist destinations.
“This project not only improves the island's infrastructure, but also reflects our commitment to the environment and sustainable mobility. Fuerteventura continues to move towards a more respectful and responsible tourism model, thanks to the support of the European Union and the collaboration of our local councils. We are working to ensure that our natural heritage and beaches continue to be a benchmark for future generations,” said the president.
For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Marlene Figueroa, explained that “these shelters, equipped with solar panels, not only offer a safe place to park bicycles, but also contribute to the energy sustainability of tourist destinations, aligning with the objectives of Fuerteventura's green transition plan.”
The Department of Tourism has signed agreements with the six municipalities for the implementation of these shelters, with a total amount of 299,952.25 euros. These actions are part of the 'Fuerte por Naturaleza' Tourism Sustainability Plan, endowed with more than 9 million euros for the years 2024-2025, and aims to promote the sustainability and modernization of the island's tourism sector.
This initiative is part of the actions financed by the European Union through the Modernization and Competitiveness Plan for the Tourism Sector of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain.
