UPDATE - 5/ 06  2020 - The 2020 edition of Fuerteventura Windsurfing & Kitesurfing Championship is now CANCELLED! The event was to be held between July 17 and August 1 on the beaches of the municipality of Pájara

The government group of Pájara, led by the mayor, Pedro Armas, announced the suspension of the 35th edition of the 'Windsurfing and Kitesurfing Championship of Fuerteventura 2020', which was to be held between July 17 and August 1 in the south of the Island.

The Consistory recalls that the restrictions and measures of prevention and security imposed as a result of the state of alarm by the expansion of COVID-19 make it unfeasible to organize events in which there is a massive influx of people.

The mayor regrets that "the current health situation has forced the cancellation of some of the most important sporting events in Fuerteventura, which has placed the municipality of Pájara at the forefront of the international water sports scene in recent decades."

For her part, the Councilor for Tourism, Marisol Placeres, expressed her regret for the suspension of an event "whose impact on the tourist promotion of the south of the island is immense, being a great attraction for visitors from all over the world."

In 2020, for the 35th year in a row, the World Cup Surfing Championship will take place in Fuerteventura, on the famous Sotavento beach.
