A giant squid, exceeding three meters in length and weighing more than 200 kilograms, has been found floating in the stretch of ocean between the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera (part of the Canary Islands archipelago).

Teo Lucas, the man responsible for recovering the specimen from the ocean, had previously encountered other large cephalopods in the past, but none is preserved as well as this one, which also had its eyes intact.

After being pulled out of the ocean, the giant squid was taken to the Spanish Institute of Oceanography-Ocean Center of the Canary Islands for a necropsy to be performed.

According to Catalina Perales-Raya, a scientist at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, around 50 other similar similar giant squids have been found in the waters around the Canary Islands in the last 25 years, so although it's not a unique event, it's still a rare sighting to find such a large specimen.
