The Government of the Canary Islands has issued a Wind Alert for the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife starting from 0.00 am on January 16. The rest of the Archipelago remains in a pre-alert situation.

South-southeast wind that may exceed 100 km/h can b expected on the northern and western slopes of La Gomera and in the municipalities between La Orotava and Santa Cruz on the island of Tenerife. On the island of El Hierro the wind might also exceed 100 km/h on summits and in the El Golfo area.

On Monday strong rains are predicted by Aemet, which combined with the sand dust still in the air, may cause the precipitation to look like mud.

The rain would largely affect the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and Gran Canaria. In Tenerife, the rain will affect more the northern part of the island and the metropolitan side around Santa Cruz, while in Teide it might even snow again.
