An eight-year-old girl was airlifted to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias on Sunday morning after a near-drowning incident at a hotel swimming pool in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.

According to information provided by the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), the incident occurred around 11:24 a.m., when the regional emergency coordination center (CECOES 1-1-2) received an alert reporting that a child was in distress in the pool of a local hotel.

Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, including a medicalized helicopter, a medical ambulance, and a basic life support ambulance from the SUC, along with a doctor and nurse from the Puerto de la Cruz health center.

Upon arrival, the health teams provided urgent medical care to the young girl, who was showing signs of severe respiratory distress consistent with near-drowning. After initial stabilization by both the local health staff and SUC personnel, the child was transferred by air to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias for further treatment.

Local and national police officers also responded to the incident, assisting emergency crews during the operation.
