
A rescue helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) successfully saved two individuals in distress in the waters near the natural pool of Los Gigantes, in the municipality of Santiago del Teide, Tenerife. The incident occurred on March 3, 2025, at approximately 3:36 PM.
The Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) provided medical evaluations for the rescued individuals. A woman was found suffering from moderate hypothermia and symptoms of near-drowning. She was stabilized at the scene before being transported in a medicalized ambulance to the University Hospital Hospiten Sur. A 34-year-old man, who sustained minor abrasions, was taken to the same hospital in a basic life support ambulance.
The emergency response was coordinated by the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112, which promptly dispatched the necessary resources. The GES helicopter rescue team reached the victims, lifted them to safety, and transported them to the helipad of the Adeje Volunteer Firefighters. Upon landing, SUC personnel assessed and assisted the patients before their hospital transfer.
Firefighters participated in the emergency operation, ensuring safe landing and takeoff procedures for the helicopter. Meanwhile, local police collaborated with emergency services to support the rescue efforts.
The swift response of the emergency teams was crucial in securing the safety of both individuals, highlighting the efficiency of Tenerife’s rescue services in critical situations.
