The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, has declared an Alert situation for Maximum Temperatures in the Canary Islands, starting at 10:00 am on August 13th.
The alert for high temperatures covers the entire archipelago, so all the islands will be affected by the heatwave during the next few days.
What to expect
Episodes of prolonged high temperatures, with a dry and warm environment, which may exceed 40ºC in Gran Canaria, although these values are not ruled out on other islands.
The high temperatures will begin on Friday the 13th affecting the southern half of Gran Canaria, southern Tenerife and the central area of Fuerteventura.
On Saturday 14 the impact will extend to all the eastern islands, mainly the inland areas and the southern coast. The episode will continue to develop towards the west, to reach the midlands and high areas of the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, having generalized effects on Sunday 15 and Monday 16.
