Calima in the Canary Islands

An episode of intense calima will affect the Canary Islands this weekend, combined with high temperatures ranging from 34 to 38 ºC, mainly affecting inland areas of the islands.

Saturday forecast - 23 July 2022

On Saturday, the calima will be more intense in the eastern islands and in Tenerife, especially during the second half of the day.

In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, moderately rising temperatures and the highest temperatures will be registered in the interior areas and on the western side.

In the rest of the archipelago the temperatures will slightly rise as well, likely reaching likely 34 -36 ºC in the inland areas of the eastern islands and inland areas facing south and west of the western islands, without ruling out that the maximum reaches 34 ºC in some parts of the coasts.

Light to moderate northeast wind, more intense on the southeast and northwest slopes; in midlands and summits, wind with an eastern and southernly component, generally weak to moderate.

Sunday forecast - 24 July 2022

On Sunday, the calima will be more intense in the eastern islands and in Tenerife.

Temperatures in slight to moderate rise in general, with the maximum temperature reaching 38ºC in the peaks and midlands of the south of Gran Canaria and 34 to 36ºC in the rest of the islands and areas, especially in inland areas, although they are not ruled out locally on the coast.

Loose northeast wind, slightly more intense on southeast and northwest slopes, and increasing in the afternoon.
