
On December 1, 2024, at 1:33 PM, emergency services conducted a successful rescue operation in Giniginámar, a village in the municipality of Tuineje, Fuerteventura.
An 87-year-old man who had suffered multiple moderate injuries after a fall in a hard-to-reach area was airlifted to safety by a helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency and Rescue Group (GES). He was subsequently transferred to the Virgen de la Peña General Hospital in Fuerteventura for medical treatment.
The incident was reported to the Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Center (CECOES 1-1-2), prompting an immediate deployment of rescue teams. Alongside the GES helicopter, firefighters from the Fuerteventura Security and Emergency Service and the Civil Guard were also dispatched to the scene. Guided by a fellow hiker who was accompanying the injured man, the firefighters reached the remote location and coordinated with the GES crew for the rescue.
Due to the challenging terrain, the helicopter was essential for extracting the injured man. After landing nearby, GES personnel, with assistance from the firefighters, secured the hiker and transported him to the hospital. The Civil Guard has opened an investigation into the incident.
