INVOLCAN, The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands, has just announced that a process of deflation has been registered, which could indicate a decrease in pressure in the Cumbre Vieja magmatic system.

The data has been registered by the Canary Islands Geodesic Network over the last 24 hours and it shows a process of deflation, which would indicate a decrease in pressure in the Cumbre Vieja magmatic system.

Could this mean that the volcanic eruption on La Palma is about to come to an end?

However, according to INVOLCAN, this does not automatically imply that the eruption is about to stop, as more data and different parameters will be needed in order to make the correct predictions about the medium-term evolution of the eruptive activity.

INVOLCAN is carrying out the data analysis in collaboration with the University of Nagoya (Japan).
