La Palma update: Data indicates that the eruption will not end soon

According to PEVOLCA, the data on seismicity, geochemistry and deformation indicate that the end of the volcano's eruption in La Palma is not near, so people should be prepared for more days of continuous eruption still.

Quick update about the volcanic eruption on La Palma

• The air quality registers an improvement compared to previous days
• Regarding the increase in seismicity in the areas of Mazo and Fuencaliente, there are no parameters to date that indicate that a new emission center may appear at some point in the southern part of La Palma
• The first set of data from the Cadastre shows a total of 726 buildings destroyed by the lava flow, most of them residential.

The area affected by the eruptive process continues to increase and now amounts to about 420.12 hectares, with a perimeter that exceeds 36.24 kilometers and a maximum width of 1,250 meters.

Regarding the affected infrastructures, Morcuende, the technical director of PEVOLCA, announced the first data provided by the Cadastre that reflects, as of Monday, a total of 726 destroyed buildings. Of the total, 605 are for residential use, 58 for agricultural use, 30 industrial, 18 for leisure and hospitality, 7 for public use and 8 not included in the previous categories. This data is different from the data provided by the Copernicus satellite, which reports 1,154 buildings affected, 1,046 destroyed and 108 partially damaged, and this difference appears because the satellite does not differentiate the type of construction.
