Last night, 10 days after the eruption on La Palma had started, the lava flow reached the sea at around 11:03 pm Canarian time.
According to reports, the main lava flow from the volcano has fallen on a small cove Playa del Perdido, which is relatively close to Playa Los Guirres, on the coast of Tazacorte.
After crossing the coastal road in the municipality of Tazacorte at around 8:00 p.m. and destroying other banana plantations on its way, the lava stream reached the sea and it generated a column of black smoke when it hit.
The arrival of the lava to the sea was also observed by scientists from the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, who are on board the oceanographic vessel Ramon Margalef, to study the effects that the lava will have on the marine life.
