The lava from the eruption on La Palma has destroyed a lot of land and homes on its way to the sea, but since reaching the sea it has started to accumulate and it's now making the island of La Palma grow.

In just a few hours, the lava piled up at the foot of the cliffs and it started forming a cone and then a delta that grew in width to about 500 meters wide and advanced towards the sea.

The areas of San Borondón, Marina Alta, Marina Baja and La Condesa will remain confined until there are definitive studies regarding the effects of the gases released.

The area affected by the eruption on La Palma now amounts to approximately 476 hectares, and according to data from the Copernicus satellite, there are 744 buildings damaged: 656 of them are completely destroyed and 88 partially damaged, including homes, warehouses and other types of construction.

The air quality in La Palma remains good

As for the air quality, so far the values have not exceeded those permitted by the current legislation. However, due to the ashes, the use of FFP2 masks is recommended throughout the Aridane Valley environment.
