Lanzarote recorded a slight decrease in tourist arrivals in February 2025, yet saw a significant increase in tourism revenue, reflecting a strategic shift towards higher-quality tourism, according to recent data from the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC).
The island welcomed 280,604 visitors in February, a marginal decline of 0.1% compared to the same month in 2024—just 167 fewer tourists. However, accommodation revenue soared to over €86 million, marking an 11.4% increase from the €77.2 million registered in February of the previous year. This figure represents the most profitable February in Lanzarote’s tourism history.
Oswaldo Betancort, President of the Lanzarote Cabildo and Councillor for Tourism, hailed the figures as evidence that the island’s tourism model is on the right path.
“Lanzarote continues to champion quality and sustainable tourism,” Betancort said. “Beyond visitor numbers, we are focused on offering high-value experiences with top-tier accommodation, services, and gastronomy. These results confirm the strength of our tourism sector and the island’s continued appeal in strategic markets.”
Héctor Fernández, CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, highlighted the economic breakdown, noting that hotels generated nearly €69 million in revenue, while tourist apartments and other accommodations brought in an additional €17 million. February also saw over 1.43 million overnight stays and around 235,600 guests across the island.
The report from Frontur-Canarias also sheds light on trends in source markets. While slight declines were noted in arrivals from Spain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy, there were increases in tourist numbers from the United Kingdom, France, and Ireland—key markets for the island.
Despite February's earnings being slightly below those of January (€89.8 million), current trends suggest that Lanzarote could close 2025 with a record-breaking annual revenue of over €1.1 billion, surpassing the €972 million reached in 2024.
Authorities from the Cabildo of Lanzarote and SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote reaffirmed their commitment to a tourism model that ensures the island’s economic, social, and environmental sustainability while maintaining its competitive edge in the global tourism market.
