Man in critical condition after near drowning in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria

A 76-year-old man is in critical condition after suffering a near drowning at Playa del Inglés in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, on 11 February 2026.

According to the Canary Islands’ Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112, an alert was received at 12:09 p.m. reporting that several people had pulled a man from the sea who required urgent medical assistance at the beach.

Emergency services were dispatched immediately. Red Cross personnel provided initial care at the scene. Medical staff from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) assessed and treated the swimmer. After being stabilised, the man was transported in a medicalised ambulance to Hospiten Roca Hospital in critical condition.

Local Police officers assisted emergency responders during the operation.
