A 41-year-old man of French nationality tragically lost his life on Thursday in a freediving accident in the El Poril area of La Tiñosa Port.

The incident reportedly occurred when a boat passed over the diver while he was submerged. Despite having an orange buoy and a flag to signal his position in the water, preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the zodiac boat failed to notice him, resulting in a fatal collision.

The accident took place around 6:20 PM, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) was alerted, and officers from the Civil Guard and local police were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the emergency responders found the man in cardiac arrest. Despite their best efforts to revive him, they were unable to save his life.

Authorities have taken charge of the investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
