On the afternoon of June 14, 2024, at approximately 16:29, a tragic incident occurred on Playa de Mogán in the south of Gran Canaria.

A 56-year-old man was rescued from the sea in a state of cardiorespiratory arrest but sadly he did not survive despite extensive resuscitation efforts.

The incident was first reported to the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government. According to the alert, a lifeguard, with the help of other bystanders, had pulled an unconscious swimmer from a rocky area of the beach. The man was found to be in cardiorespiratory arrest, prompting the lifeguard and others to immediately begin resuscitation maneuvers, including the use of a defibrillator.

In response to the emergency call, CECOES 1-1-2 activated various emergency resources. The response included a medicalized ambulance and a basic life support ambulance from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), as well as personnel from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, the Local Police, the Civil Guard, and Civil Protection.

SUC personnel took over and continued both basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts upon arrival. Despite their thorough and persistent efforts, they were unable to revive the man, and his death was confirmed at the scene.

Firefighters and Civil Protection teams assisted in providing aid alongside the other emergency responders. The Local Police secured the area to facilitate the emergency response, while Civil Guard officers safeguarded the deceased until the arrival of judicial authorities, who then took over the formal proceedings.
