A tragic incident unfolded on the morning of November 23, 2024, at Playa del Cura, located in the municipality of Mogán, Gran Canaria.

Emergency services were alerted at 8:52 a.m. after a man was pulled from the water requiring urgent medical assistance. Despite extensive efforts by rescuers and medical teams, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The alarm was raised through the CECOES 1-1-2 emergency coordination center, which immediately activated multiple response teams. Among the responders were the local beach rescue service, the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), which dispatched a medicalized ambulance, a basic life support ambulance, and a medical helicopter, along with members of the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, Protección Civil, Local Police, and Guardia Civil.

Upon confirming that the man was in cardiac arrest, a SUC nurse coordinator guided bystanders via teleassistance to begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). A beach lifeguard then took over, applying a semi-automatic defibrillator.

When medical teams arrived, including personnel transported by helicopter, they continued basic and advanced resuscitation efforts. Despite their best efforts, the man could not be revived, and his death was confirmed at the scene.

The Local Police and Protección Civil supported the emergency operation, while firefighters from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium ensured the safe landing and takeoff of the medical helicopter on the beach.
