A 37-year-old man has died after drowning at Famara Beach, in the municipality of Teguise, while emergency teams continue searching for another man who went missing in the same area on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 4:09 p.m., when the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 received several calls reporting that a person had been pulled from the water in cardiac arrest by beach lifeguards, who immediately began resuscitation efforts.
According to CECOES, a companion of the victim, who managed to leave the water unharmed, informed rescuers that a third man was still missing in the sea.
The Canary Emergency Service (SUC) deployed a medical helicopter, an advanced life support ambulance, and a basic life support ambulance to the scene. Despite the efforts of medical personnel to perform advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the man could not be revived, and his death was confirmed on site.
A large-scale search operation was launched to locate the missing person, involving the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), Maritime Rescue, the Lanzarote Fire and Rescue Consortium, the Local Police, the Civil Guard, and Emerlan. Search efforts are being carried out by land, sea, and air.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
