A man has drowned on Tuesday afternoon at La Laja beach, in the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2, several calls were received at around 1:05 p.m. reporting that two men were having difficulties getting out of the water.

Emergency services were immediately dispatched, including a medicalized ambulance and a basic life support unit from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), as well as the National Police, Local Police, and the Fire and Rescue Service of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Before the emergency crews arrived, several people on the beach managed to pull the two men out of the water. Bystanders began performing basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on one of them, while the other did not require medical attention.

Upon arrival, SUC personnel continued advanced resuscitation efforts but were unable to revive the man, and his death was confirmed at the scene.

The National Police took charge of the necessary proceedings pending the arrival of judicial authorities. Firefighters and local police assisted in the emergency response operation.
